New Acquisitions:
I don't remember the last time I let myself spend a serious amount of cash on some much-needed clothes, and the feeling was ridiculously exhilarating. I've stayed true to my promise to stay away from cheaply made clothes from Forever 21 (a vice that was very hard to shake) and have officially been converted to the Rack, where many well-made pairs of jeans are to be had. The feeling of a new pair of jeans is a truly magical sensation and though perhaps not quite sinus clearing, will most definitely put spring back into your step.
Nourishment:
Clear, rich chicken broth lovingly made by a neighbor with soft white rolls and banana bread. Also, for good measure, a French onion soup that will make everyone's eyes water mercilessly while stewing for no less than an hour for ensured phenomenal flavor.
Long drives through the night in the city:
Black licorice straight from the bag and the mix CD we've heard a hundred times while navigating new city corners and peering into lit windows like the voyeurs we are- imagining the little lives that are living inside of them and voicing our hopes for the future and laughing at nonsensical jokes.
Pampering:
Questionable concoctions of essential oils and a green-hued mud mask promising renewed pores applied to a willing boyfriend and a waiting game on the couch with Hulu and a bag of barbecue-flavored Baked Lays.
And lastly:
St. Vincent.
Enough said.

yes to the pampering. i'd like to add/suggest watching a steady stream of movies to the list. oddly, "clueless" is a fav when i'm on the brink of being sick.
ReplyDeletegreat tips. ive been trying to cut forever 21 out of my places that i frequent too, maybe itd be much easier if tehre was nordstroms rack closeby, haha. i also want to learn to make bread! maybe add to the "nourishment" section? i saw a great video by tartine in SF thats really interested me.
ReplyDeletenice to see you back!
ReplyDeletenew jeans are the best, especially when they fit perfectly. I found a black pair a few weeks ago and i love them because they don't stretch after wearing, they keep their shape the whole time! simple pleasures :)
